Early life and Education
Stanley Bernard Livingston was born on 24 November 1950, in Los Angeles, California USA. His parents were Lillian Rochelle ‘Marilyn’ Palyash and Hillard Livingston, and he has a younger brother, Barry Gordon Livingston, who was born in 1953. Little to nothing is disclosed about his earliest years.
Career
Livingston made his acting debut in 1958, when he portrayed a boy in the biographical film “The Bonnie Parker Story”, but he wasn’t in the credits. That same year he had another uncredited role, this time in the movie “Rally ‘Round the Flag, Boys”. Livingston then made his first recurring appearance in the comedy TV series “The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet”, being just eight years old when he was cast, and remaining in the show for five seasons. The following year he appeared in the first episode of “Peck’s Bad Girl”.
In 1960 Livingston made a brief appearance on “The George Gobel Show”, and also had a small role in the comedy film “Please Don’t Eat the Daisies”. That same year he had his breakthrough role when he became a part of the main cast for the family TV series “My Three Sons”. He portrayed Chip Douglas, son of widower Steve Douglas who was played by Fred MacMurray. He remained in the series for 12 years, later joined by his brother Barry Livingston, who portrayed his adopted brother, Ernie Thompson Douglas.
In 1961, he was in Richard Donner’s history movie “X-15”. Two years later, he made a cameo appearance in the film “How the West Was Won”.
He also appeared as a guest in TV series “Day in Court” and “Sarge”. After his work on “My Three Sons” ended, he portrayed a small role in the comedy-horror film “Private Parts” as Jeff, and that same year provided the voice for Happius in the TV series “Roman Holiday”. During the rest of the early 1970s, he appeared in several TV series, such as “Room 222” and “Lucas Tanner”, and provided various voices for the animated TV show “Devlin” in 1974. In 1979, he co-starred in the action-comedy film “Smokey and the Hotwire Gang”, alongside James Keach and Tony Lorea.
After this, Livingston took a long break from acting, returning briefly in 1995, when he made cameo appearances in films “Striptease” and “Bikini Drive-In” – in the latter he was even credited not by his own name, but simply as ‘Chip’. He also appeared in the comedy film “Attack of the 60 Foot Centerfold”, about a magazine centerfold who suddenly became 60 feet tall.
As of May 2020, Livingston’s last appearance was in David Strohmaier’s short film “In the Picture”, in which he portrayed the character called Stanley.
After retiring from acting, he remained in the film industry behind the camera. Sandra had one acting role, in the episode of “My Three Sons” called “Polly’s Secret Life”, portraying Donelle. The couple had one daughter, Samantha Livingston, however, their marriage didn’t last, and the duo divorced in 1974.
In 2011, during the filming of Livingston’s last film, “In the Picture”, he met Paula Drake, an actress known for “Escape Artist”, “The Second Coming of Christ”, “Shock” and “Come Dawn”, who portrayed his on-screen wife for that movie. The couple quickly fell in love, and tied the knot in 2015. As of May 2020, they are still married.
He and his real-life brother, Barry, played brothers in “My Three Sons” – their acting mentor was the late Fred MacMurray. The brothers also appeared together in the film “Rally ‘Round the Flag, Boys” in 1958. Barry is also known for his appearances in films “War Dogs”, “Jersey Boys” and the Oscar-winning film “Argo”.
Through his brother, Stanley has two nephews: Spencer Livingston and Hailey Livingston, and is the brother-in-law of Karen Huntsman.
