Early life and education
Jeff was raised an only child in Connecticut by his father who was a businessman, and his mother who was a lawyer. He grew up watching movies and series on TV starring Arnold Schwarzenegger as well as Sylvester Stallone, and Jeff became interested in working out, wanting to become a bodybuilder such as them.
He attended a public high school where he was playing soccer and baseball for the school’s teams, and it was there that he realized how working out at the gym could help him perform better at these sports. He began exercising with weights at the age of 16, but worked out at home as he was still too embarrassed to go to the gym.
Upon matriculation, Jeff enrolled at the University of Connecticut from which he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in physioneurobiology in 1997, then went on to obtain his Master’s degree in physical therapy from the University of Connecticut as well, in 2000.
He has also earned his Strength and Conditioning Certificate from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).
Career as a fitness instructor
Jeff launched his career in 2001 when he started working as a personal trainer, as well as a physical therapist for professional football and baseball players, with one of the most famous people he has worked with being Mark Johnson, a baseball player who played first base from 1995 to 2002 for three teams including the New York Mets.
Jeff continued working with Mark for several years before he was invited by the New York Mets to serve as their physical therapist, which was a dream come true for him as it has been his favorite baseball team since he was a kid. He stayed with them for three years, while the Mets won the National League East Championship in 2006. Jeff went on to launch his training system – ATHLEAN-X – shortly after leaving the Mets in 2009.
He is also a bit of a writer, as he was writing for the magazine “Men’s Fitness” in 2004, while he has also written and published his books “Major League Insider Training Manual”, as well as “The Teen Sports Nutrition Blueprint”.
Jeff is very popular on the internet. Jeff met his future other half at a party sometime in the ‘90s, but the two dated for over 10 years before marrying in 2008 – Jeff is still keeping her out of the spotlight, and has even managed to keep her name a secret. She gave birth to their first son in 2016, followed by their second son born just several minutes later. The family of four is currently living together in New York City. Hobbies and other interests
Jeff is a huge fan of baseball and the New York Mets, and is planning to return and work for them as soon as his sons get a bit older. Jeff still works out at the gym six to seven times per week, and is following a strict diet which includes six meals per day focused on protein, vegetables and fruits. His breakfast almost always includes pumpkin oatmeal and skimmed milk, and it is followed by a protein shake made with bananas and strawberries.
He eats chicken meat and yoghurt for lunch which is followed by another snack, and he usually has tuna or sweet potatoes for dinner. He has another protein shake at 10pm.
Jeff enjoys watching movies late at night with his wife, and some of his favorite actors and actresses are Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Angelina Jolie, while his favorite movies include “The Terminator”, the franchise “The Fast and the Furious”, and “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider”.
