Gil Bellows was born on 28 June 1967, in Vancouver, British Colombia, Canada, so holds Canadian citizenship. He matriculated from Magee Secondary School, and pursued a career in acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Los Angeles, California.

Gil is well known for his first motion picture role as the young, bumbling thief named Tommy, appearing with his fellow co-stars Mark Rolston, Paul McCrane, Jude Ciccolella, and Bob Gunton, in “The Shawshank Redemption” in 1994.

He had a recurring role in the television series “The Agency” as CIA Agent Matt Callan, then played the lead role in “Love and a .45” as Watty Watt. He also appeared in other films including a French movie entitled “Un amour de sorcière’”, “Kill the Messenger”, “House at the End of the Street”, and a Super Channel Science-Fiction adventure thriller film entitled “Infected”.
